Pierre-Auguste Renoir was one of the greatest French painters and a leading figure of Impressionism. Born in 1841 in Limoges, he moved to Paris at a young age, where he initially worked as a porcelain decorator. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts and frequented the famous studio of Charles Gleyre, where he met artists such as Monet, Sisley, and Bazille, with whom he shared his first artistic experiences.

Renoir was attracted to natural light and plein air painting, central characteristics of Impressionism, but he stood out for his special interest in the depiction of the human body and female beauty. Works such as Le Moulin de la Galette (1876) and Luncheon of the Boating Party (1881) are among the most famous masterpieces of this period.

Over time, Renoir moved away from the more fragmented style of Impressionism, developing a personal, softer, and more classical language, inspired by the Renaissance tradition and Raphael. Despite the serious health problems that beset him in his later years, he continued to paint until his death, which came in Cagnes-sur-Mer in 1919.
