Architectural Capriccio with Adoration of the Shepherds
The canvas depicts a capriccio with architecture and ruins and, inside the portico of a building in the foreground, an Adoration of the shepherds. The religious character of the representation is dissolved in the vastness of the buildings, and the spiritual theme merges with the taste for reflection on the ancient and on the transience of earthly things. The painting is accompanied by a 17th century frame, in black and gilded lacquered wood.
