Auction at Arcadia with works by Accardi, Kounellis and Mauri
The Rome auction house now reaches its sixth sale, which will be hammered out by actor Francesco Montanari. The proceeds will be donated to Teatro Patologico, an organisation dedicated to supporting mentally and physically disabled children.The event is proposed for Monday 13 March and will feature valuable pieces by leading artists, modern and contemporary, African and Italian. In this auction, tradition meets exoticism, as those responsible explain:
"The ever growing interest of the collecting world in African art, shared by the likes of Pablo Picasso (avid collector of tribal masks) and Amedeo Modigliani, is in our opinion consistent with the process of 'essentialisation' of language taking place in contemporary society (just think of the overwhelming power of social networks) and is linked to the typical primitivism through which African artists make their works a very effective and immediate means of communication'.
Also up for auction will be pieces by the late master of arte Povera, Jannis Kounellis, and two protagonists of the 2015 edition of the Venice Biennale, Mario Macilau and Gonçalo Mabunda and Almighty God. Highlights of the exhibition scheduled from Wednesday 8 March are Carla Accardi and Fabio Mauri, as well as the artists of the Piazza del Popolo school, exponents of Roman pop art.
Vettor Pisani, among many others, will also be present, made more topical than ever by the recent publication of the catalogue of the exhibition 'Eroica/Antieroica: Una retrospettiva' at the Madre museum in Naples. Among the Italian artists of the 20th century, there will be Carlo Carrà, Afro Basaldella and Gino Severini, not to mention an aeropittura by Italo Ferro, an artist as mysterious as he is controversial.
There are also some lots of graphics and an entire section dedicated to Vittorio Sella, photographer and mountaineer from Biella. The last lot in the auction is an original one-off printed photograph portraying the 'Lebanese man', the protagonist of the TV series Romanzo Criminale.
