Biscuit group, Naples, Real Fabbrica Ferdinandea, early 19th century

depicting Perseus with the head of the Gorgon held in his left hand while releasing Andromeda from the sea monster represented below; defects and shortcomings. The group of Perseus and Andromeda appears in the list of models created by Filippo Tagliolini before 1796 (see Angela Caròla Perrotti, The Porcelain of the Royal Ferdinandea Factory, p. 168) and up to the last years of the manufacture. Together with other compositions inspired by the ancient, the model presented here constitutes the three-dimensional transposition of a mural painting found in the house of the Dioscuri in Pompeii.
