Penitent Maddalena
The painting depicts Magdalene kneeling in a wooded landscape that has recently repented, as evidenced by the skull placed on the rock, symbol of vanitas, in the act of worshiping the crucifix. Judging by the compositional choices, the palette used and the features of the saint, the work seems to be able to refer to a painter active in Emilia in the early eighteenth century, comparable to the works of Gian Gioseffo dal Sole and Marcantonio Franceschini.
