After emerging in the 1930s, he gained international recognition with major works such as La Crocifissione (1941) and La Vucciria (1974), becoming a central figure in post-war Italian cultural debate. He participated several times in the Venice Biennale and in important international exhibitions, establishing himself as one of the most recognizable Italian artists of the 20th century.
