biography
Guido Reni, born in Bologna on November 4, 1575, and died in the same city on August 18, 1642, was one of the greatest Italian painters and engravers of the 17th century, known as the 'divine Guido' for his mastery in classical Baroque. Son of musician Daniele Reni and Ginevra Pozzi, he showed early talent entering at nine years old the workshop of Flemish painter Denys Calvaert, where he met Francesco Albani and Domenichino. He later attended the Carracci Academy, refining a style blending Renaissance idealization and Emilian naturalism, becoming a protagonist of the Bolognese school alongside Guercino and Lanfranco[1][2][3][4][5][6][7].
