Il disegno è tratto dall'arazzo, conservato nella Galleria degli Arazzi dei Musei Vaticani, da un cartone degli allievi di Raffaello. Un'altra versione, realizzata a pietra nera, è conservata presso il Metropolitan Museum di New York (INV. 80.3.47)
