Il dipinto raffigura Vittoria della Rovere in abito da vedova, entro cornice coeva. Ne esistono altre versioni: una di ambito mantovano, ca. 1670-1675, conservata a Palazzo Pitti (inv. 1890, n. 2670); una al Musée des Beaux-Arts di Chambéry (inv. 677); e una presso la Galleria Corsini di Firenze.
