Un’incisione di Edme Bovinet (1767–1832), contenuta nell’opera in quattro volumi Galerie du
Musée Napoléon, redatta da Joseph Lavallée e pubblicata nel 1804, attesta che l’invenzione
compositiva della Sacra Famiglia con san Giovannino e sant’Elisabetta qui proposta sia da riferire
al pittore parmense Girolamo Francesco Maria Mazzola, detto Parmigianino.
