Edward Garraway fu un pittore di genere attivo a Londra nel XIX secolo. La prima opera a lui attribuibile risale al 1870 ed è intitolata A Bad Start, presumibilmente un ritratto di un cavallo da corsa, soggetto che anticipa il suo interesse per la pittura animalista. Trascorse il resto della sua vita lavorando come pittore professionista di animali.
L’opera del 1890 dimostra una notevole capacità di cogliere il carattere, lo spirito e il fascino dei soggetti rappresentati. La resa è diretta e spontanea, con un’attenzione particolare alla vitalità dell’animale piuttosto che al virtuosismo formale. Garraway espose a Londra, in particolare in Suffolk Street, tra il 1875 e il 1878.
