Ebonized wooden casket with polychrome porcelain plaques, France, 19th century

Rectangular in shape, it features a hinged lid decorated with white porcelain plaques with brightly painted polychrome decorations, enclosed in gilded bronze frames. At the center are figures in 18th-century dress set in a landscape in the style of Jean-Antoine Watteau; flower arrangements surround it. The contoured front is decorated with porcelain shields depicting romantic scenes and is divided into two doors separated by semicircular pilasters that conceal a drawer. Gilded bronze side handles, bracket feet. Minor defects. 25x40x28 cm
