Jean-Louis de Marne was a French painter and printmaker. Born in Brussels, he moved to Paris at the age of twelve. He studied at the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture in Paris, dedicating himself in particular to landscape and genre painting. His training was strongly influenced by 17th-century Dutch masters, such as Aelbert Cuyp, the Van Ostade brothers, Paulus Potter, Adriaen van de Velde and Karel Dujardin, artists who enjoyed great popularity in Paris at that time.
Appointed associate of the Académie Royale in 1783, he was chosen by the Emperor to paint L'Entrevue de Napoléon et de Pie VII dans la forêt de Fontainebleau. oil on canvas 59x73 cm - with frame 80x94.5 cm Reference bibliography:
