The canvas depicts the famous Gospel episode of the Supper at Emmaus, according to the intelligent and very popular composition, codified by Jacopo Dal Ponte "Bassano" and his brother Francesco. The work, which is striking for the presence of a silvery and lunar light and a quick and flickering brushstroke, demonstrates that desire for "secularization" of the Gospel tale typical of the revolutionary paintings of the Dal Ponte brothers. The canvas is accompanied by a 17th century Tuscan frame, in black lacquered wood and gilded details.
