Scuola romana del XIX secolo

The precious painting depicts the expressive and well-dressed members of a family, portrayed inside a bourgeois house. The work represents an interesting example of family portraiture of the first decades of the nineteenth century, in which we see the configuration of a more intimate and domestic declination than the sumptuous examples of early Neoclassic paintings. The character of simplicity and, we could say, "understatement" of the depiction of the family, devoid of pomp but not dignity, suggests a lot about the profound social changes of those eventful decades. The well-preserved canvas is presented within a gilded wooden frame, consistent with the painting and datable to the first decades of the 19th century.
