Scuola Lombarda del XVII secolo

The contrasts of light, the cold and glazed colors and the physiognomy of the figure of Christ suggest a Lombard painter of the first half of the 17th century. The Taking of Christ in the Garden of Olives, a particularly complex scene to represent and of great suggestion, determined during the whole of the seventeenth century a fundamental opportunity for those painters who wished to experiment with difficult compositions and strong effects of luministic contrast. The painting proposed here, accompanied by a coeval frame, fits into the trend of Lombard painting of the seventeenth century.
