The Battle of the Amazons
The canvas presents a free seventeenth-century interpretation of the famous Battle of the Amazons attributed to Pieter Paul Rubens and kept at the Alte Pinakothek in Munich. The quality of the brushstroke, the freedom shown in varying some chromatic choices, as well as in deviating from some solutions adopted in the Munich model, suggest that we are not in the presence of a slavish imitator, but rather that we are faced with the work of an artist who is not without of personality and inventiveness - For a comparison with another seventeenth-century variant of Rubens' famous painting: cf.
