Allegory of glory

A figure of a woman, personalization of glory, unveils the bust of Caesar holding a laurel wreath. The painting, with its enigmatic iconography, is part of a trend that was very successful during the nineteenth century, linked to the representation of allegories and historical themes interpreted in a more or less imaginative way. This type of painting is characterized by the numerous references to classicism, which often echoed the important archaeological discoveries of those years. In this case we can see the attention paid to the representation of an inlaid floor, the references to the statuary, and some architectures in the background that recall the Pompeian places.
