Pair of battles

The canvases, which we admire for the fast and flickering brushstroke, the cleverly arranged light strokes and the effective rendering of the movement, give a sense of how the genre of battles had represented a fundamental artistic opportunity for many painters, especially from the seventeenth century in then. Here we see the dilution of pictorial aspects still exquisitely linked to the Venetian tradition, of which Marini was the son, in the satisfaction of an entirely Emilian painting.

Attribution to Antonio Maria Marini thanks to Professor Giancarlo Sestieri.
