Manjushri Namasangiti in bronze with silver, Nepal, 18th century
Bodhisattva Manjushri is portrayed in an extremely rare manifestation which takes the name of Namasangiti, the primordial Master. This representation is to be considered of great importance for all Nepalese Buddhism as the spiritual ancestor of the five transcendent Buddhas and the entire Buddhist cosmos. It is also specific only to Nepal and few representations of it are known that underline its importance. The character, with a beautiful light patina, is seated in the canonical cross-legged posture (padmasana) and exceptionally has twelve arms: six frontal, four lateral and two extended above the head
