The fires of Castel Sant'Angelo

Signed lower right: C.P. The fireworks display originated around the seventeenth century, conceived by Michelangelo Buonarroti for the celebrations of Saints Peter and Paul, founders of the Church and patrons of Rome. It was interrupted in 1886 by the Italian authorities who considered it too dangerous.
