Madonna and the Child with S.Giovannino. Oil on board, cm 58x47. Within frame style. The painting is a precious testimony to the peculiar school of Forli developed between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries and of which Marco Palmezzano (1458-1539) was the greatest exponent, together with his master Melozzo da Forli (1438-1494). In Forli, in fact, the figurative art took on aspects that were distinguishable from those that are similar and fraternal in the nearby cities, and in Palmezzano the criticism tends to recognize the artist who was able to give the city of Forli of the Renaissance a specific identity. Significant are the features of the painting proposed with the work of the painter and only for cautionary attribution that it was not chosen to refer the work to the Palmezzano itself, given the strong proximity found with the Madonna and Child enthroned between the SS.Severo and Valeriano executed in 1516 and currently conserved at the Forli Pinacoteca Civica.
