Provenance: London, Christie's, November 16, 1956. Brother of the best known Enrico, Francesco was a particularly skilled watercolourist in the representation of the figure in a popular key and historical setting, almost always treated with a subtle satirical vein. he was nicknamed the "bible" because of his private and secluded life, in the shadow of the fame of his father, a well-known English landscape painter, and his brother.
