SMALL ELM CHEST OF DRAWERS
Small chest of drawers in elm, purple ebony and rosewood; top with molded eyelash, middling façade with slightly protruding central portion divided into four drawers without crosspieces with handles in gilded bronze ideally supported by bows, short pillar feet, 84x93x58 cm Sweden, late eighteenth century, Attributable to the cabinet of Georg Haupt (1741 - 1784), Georg Haupt learned the cabinetmaking profession from his father Elias. Between 1763 and 1768 he visited Amsterdam, Paris and London. Returning to Stockholm he was appointed court cabinet maker of King Gustavus Adolphus IV. The furnishings he produced for Gustavo III and other members of the court still furnish the royal palace in Stockholm, the Drottningholm, the summer residence of Haga, Tullgran and the palace of Queen Sofia Albertina.
