CHINESE KRAAK DISHES
Lot consisting of two white and blue porcelain plates (qinghua) depicting animals in a landscape; Jingdezhen Chinese Manufactory (Jiangxi Province); Emperor Wanli's period (1573-1620) late th-early 17th century, diameters cm 20 and cm 19. The two dishes are of the types known as kraak. These are porcelain decorated with the use of cobalt blue underneath, in so called in Chinese "qinghua" decoration, in which on the bottom of the plates floral elements, fauna or characters are depicted in a natural environment, while in the other parts are further decorations are provided.This production is known in the West as kraak. Portuguese ships carrying this type of Chinese manufactory to tradein the west indeed, in some occasions were assaulted and spoiled by Dutch ships.
