biography
Victor Mahu, Flemish painter born on October 23, 1647, in Antwerp and died in the same city around 1700, is renowned for his lively genre scenes depicting everyday tavern life. His works portray drinkers, card and board game players, dancers, and peasants in rustic and festive settings, characterized by vivid realism and attention to 17th-century social details. Active solely in Antwerp until his death in 1700, Mahu stands out in Flemish painting for his ability to capture with humor and precision the popular aspects of the era's society, such as peasants' dances in inns and Flemish tavern scenes.
