biography
A genre painter and excellent colorist, **Giacomo Favretto** founded Venetian Verism, a movement continued by Ciardi, Nono, Silvio Rotta, and Luigi Mion, with luminous and naturalistic works capturing Venice's popular essence. He died at age 37 from typhoid fever (or fulminant illness) during the 1887 Venice National Exhibition, leaving unfinished works like **Traghetto della Maddalena**. In 1899, the Venice Biennale dedicated a retrospective to him, and later exhibitions confirmed his importance, with masterpieces in museums and royal collections.
