biography
Christian Wilhelm Ernst Dietrich, also known as Christian Dietricy, was a German painter and draftsman born in Weimar in 1712 and died in Dresden in 1774. Coming from an artistic family, he received his artistic training in his father's workshop, who was also a painter and greatly influenced his style and technique. Dietrich was distinguished by his great versatility, working across landscapes, portraits, genre scenes, allegories, classical mythology, and religious subjects, demonstrating a remarkable ability to adapt to different painting genres. His work is characterized by a stylistic dialogue with great masters of the past, as evidenced by paintings attributed to him held in important collections, including the National Museum of Norway. Among his best-known works are portraits and genre scenes, often executed in oil on canvas or panel, reflecting the artistic sensibility of 18th-century Germany. His activity was mainly centered in the cities of Weimar and Dresden, where he left a significant mark on the artistic landscape of the time. The auction house Arcadia manages the sale and appraisal of his works, confirming the collecting interest in this historic artist.
