biography
Carlo Scarpa was one of the most influential Italian architects and designers of the 20th century, born in Venice in 1906. Raised in a culturally rich environment, Scarpa studied at the Venice Academy of Fine Arts, where he developed a deep sensitivity to art and craftsmanship. His career was marked by the ability to blend Venetian tradition with modern innovation, creating works that integrate materials, artisanal details, and respect for historical context. From 1932 to 1947, he served as artistic director for the Paolo Venini glassworks, helping to renew Murano glass design. Among his most famous works are restoration projects and architectural designs that balance modernity and tradition, influencing generations of architects and designers. Scarpa died in Sendai in 1978, leaving a lasting legacy in Italian architecture and design.
