biography
Carlo Nason was born in Murano in 1935 into one of the oldest and most prestigious glassmaking families on the island. From a young age, he was immersed in the world of Murano glass, learning from master glassmakers in his family’s furnace. Throughout his career, Nason combined refined artisanal techniques with an innovative design approach, creating original and high-quality works ranging from chandeliers to table lamps and wall sconces.
In the 1960s, he began collaborating with his family’s glass factory, V. Nason & C, producing pieces now held in international museum collections such as the Corning Museum of Glass in New York. Between 1965 and 1980, he worked with the historic Mazzega company in Murano, developing highly successful collections that remain sought after in international auctions. He also collaborated with other important Murano glassworks including Vistosi, Carlo Moretti, and Livio Seguso.
From the 1980s onward, Nason expanded his collaborations to include the Firme Di Vetro Group in Salzano, De Majo glassworks in Murano, and Leucos. His creativity extended beyond glass, designing ski boots for Garmont, ceramics for Baldelli, and graphic works for various companies. Passionate about photography, he won numerous competitions in the 1960s and 1970s. His works are part of international museums and private collections, establishing him as a key figure in Italian design and the art of Murano glass.
