biography
Andrea Marchisio, Italian painter born in Turin in 1850 and died in the same city in 1927, was a prominent figure in the Turinese art scene. Trained at the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti di Torino, where he enrolled in 1864, he specialized in genre and historical painting. From 1872 he regularly exhibited at the Promotrice delle Belle Arti in Turin until the end of the 19th century, and occasionally in London. Influenced by the European Orientalist movement of the second half of the 19th century, he created monumental works such as 'La danza di Salome', signed 'A Marchisio' lower left, oil on canvas of large dimensions (190.5 x 249 cm), from a private collection in Buenos Aires.
